Twin Tec™ filter

Distinctive flexible performance

The Twin Tec™ filter innovatively combines two technologies to provide optimum performance as well as visual differentiation. It uses different types of material in a coaxial configuration with a shaped section forming the central core. When used with cigarette ventilation, the filter can give a significant reduction of carbon monoxide and other vapour phase gases without reducing tar levels by the same factor in a ventilated cigarette.

Filter construction

Consists of two types of high-quality crimped cellulose acetate fibres in a coaxial formation. The inner core, which can be produced in a variety of shapes, is encased in an outer cylinder. Alternatively, the core can be made from paper to further increase flexibility. The materials selected for the inner and outer components ensure different pressure drop and / or filtration efficiency.

The inner core may be formed in a variety of cross-sectional shapes or a coloured membrane used for differentiation or anti-counterfeiting. It is usually wrapped in non-porous paper while the filter is covered by an outer plugwrap, which can be standard or porous depending on ventilation requirements.

A range of shapes, material combinations, lengths, and circumferences can be tailored to the cigarette. Smoke flow, levels of tar and nicotine retention, reduction of carbon monoxide and draw resistance are controlled. Designed to enhance branding, and suit customer taste and filtration requirements.

Features and benefits

  • Distinctive visual differentiation and performance through a combination of technologies
  • Maintains desired cigarette taste and smoking experience (especially in ultra-low-tar cigarettes) while reducing the levels of carbon monoxide and other volatile smoke compounds
  • Good smoking experience owing to good cigarette draw resistance, even with high ventilation
  • Good design flexibility from choice of pressure drop, ventilation levels, retention properties and smoke flow paths
