Coaxial Core filter

Smoking experience maintained

The Coaxial Core filter uses different types of material in a coaxial configuration, which, when used with cigarette ventilation, can give a significant reduction of carbon monoxide and other vapour phase gases without reducing tar levels by the same factor in a ventilated cigarette.

Filter construction

Consists of two types of high-quality crimped cellulose acetate fibres in a coaxial formation: an inner core encased in an outer cylinder. Alternatively, the core can be made from paper to further increase flexibility. The materials selected for the inner and outer components ensure different pressure drop and / or filtration efficiency.

The inner core may be formed in a variety of cross-sectional shapes or a coloured membrane used for differentiation or anti-counterfeiting. It is usually wrapped in non-porous paper while the filter is covered by an outer plugwrap, which can be standard or porous.

Choice of material combinations, lengths, and circumferences enables the control of smoke flow, levels of tar and nicotine retention, reduction of carbon monoxide, and draw resistance. Each construction is designed to enhance brand and suit customer taste and filtration requirements.

Features and benefits

  • Maintains the desired cigarette taste and smoking experience, especially in ultra-low-tar cigarettes, while reducing the levels of carbon monoxide and other volatile smoke compounds
  • A good smoking experience through good draw resistance even with high ventilation
  • Product differentiation and target market appeal through distinctive end appearance
  • Good design flexibility from choice of pressure drop, ventilation levels, retention properties and smoke flow paths
